Expanding on the six way weave - the lockstep method of chair caning

Two posts in a week! Here is another video, this time going over the lockstep method for caning a chair in the six way weave.

It produces the same pattern, but with the steps being done in a different order. It is particularly useful for curved panels, or vertical panels which can't be laid flat.

I wouldn't recommend it to a total beginner, which is why I don't go into specifics on achieving the weave here. I suggest doing a few pieces in the traditional "pairs" method to get a really good understanding of how the strands mesh together, before attempting the lockstep method.

As promised, here are the two finished frames side by side. The lockstep is on the left, and the traditional is on the right.

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. I'm considering tackling a different shape in the next video, as very few pieces of furniture in the wild are square or rectangular!

Happy caning
